Planning Internship

The Planning Intern program at the City of Salem offers a valuable opportunity for students to gain practical experience in the world of urban planning. You’ll work alongside experienced planners, contributing to the development and implementation of projects that shape the future of Salem.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, Environmental Science, Geography, or a related field.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an ability to research and interpret data
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and GIS software (preferred)
• A passion for creating livable and sustainable communities

Responsibilities

• Assist with research and analysis related to land use planning, zoning, or development projects
• Draft planning documents, reports, and presentations
• Participate in public outreach activities and community meetings.
• Assist with data collection and analysis tasks to support planning initiatives
• Learn about the City’s planning processes and regulations
