The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) Human Rights Initiative (HRI) seeks a passionate and motivated intern to support its work on a wide range of contemporary human rights issues. Gain valuable experience in a fast-paced think tank environment, contribute to impactful research, and help advance CSIS’s mission of promoting practical solutions to global challenges.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program with a demonstrated interest in foreign policy, international studies, political science, international human rights law, conflict prevention, gender, or a related discipline is required.
  • Excellent academic record.
  • Strong research and analytical skills with the ability to synthesize complex information.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with social media platforms (a plus).
  • A keen interest in current events and global human rights issues.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks effectively, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills and a detail-oriented approach.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor developments on timely international human rights issues to support HRI programming and the Director’s external engagements.
  • Conduct research and compile data to support HRI projects and publications.
  • Assist with drafting correspondence, reports, and other HRI materials.
  • Track and analyze relevant legislation, policies, and human rights reports.
  • Contribute to the development and curation of HRI’s social media presence (as applicable).
  • Support HRI events and activities as needed.
