Summary:

The IMU Breakout Graduate Fellowship Program is funded by the winners of the Breakthrough Prizes in Mathematics and supports doctoral studies in mathematics in developing countries. The program offers a few grants for outstanding students from developing countries who want to pursue a PhD degree in their own or another developing country. Professional mathematicians can nominate eligible and motivated students who have a good academic record and a passion for research and teaching in mathematics.

Deadline:
The nomination process opens on February 1, 2024 and closes at 09:00 AM hours CEST on May 31, 2024.
Shortlisted candidates will be informed by July 15, 2024 and final decisions will be made by September 15, 2024.
PhD start dates can be between October 1, 2024 and March 1, 2025.

Application Requirements:

  • Candidates must have an offer of admission to a PhD program in mathematics in a developing country listed in Priority 1 or 2 of the IMU Definition
  • Must be nominated by a professional mathematician who knows their work and potential.
  • Candidates must submit an online application form and provide supporting documents, such as transcripts, letters of recommendation, and a research proposal.
