Store Executive Intern (Store Leadership Intern) – Denver Metro, Colorado (Starting Summer 2024)

Description:

Gain firsthand experience in leading a retail team at Target through a comprehensive and paid 40-hour-per-week internship program. This hands-on training opportunity is designed to develop and prepare you for a future role in store leadership. As a Stores Executive Intern, you will receive a realistic job preview of the Executive Team Leader position within a specific timeframe.

Throughout this internship, you will collaborate closely with other managers and team members to gain insights into Target’s retail operations and acquire the necessary skills to excel in a management capacity. While being exposed to various aspects of the store’s business, the primary focus will be on learning the intricacies of leading a specific store section.

Outcomes:

  • Proficient in guest service fundamentals and adept at fostering a guest-centric team culture throughout the entire store.
  • Skilled in engaging with guests, effectively resolving problems, and delivering exceptional service.
  • Strong understanding of the fundamental principles of the retail business.
  • Previous experience in setting and organizing monthly or quarterly workloads for department(s) to align with business objectives, while leading a team to achieve service and sales targets.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and lead a diverse team of hourly team members and team leaders, while developing and implementing business strategies and objectives.
  • Proficiency in recruiting, selecting, and managing the talent of hourly team members and leaders.

Responsibilities:

Interns will have the following responsibilities during the duration of the Internship:

  • Engage with team members on the sales floor and in the backroom, providing leadership and aligning the team with daily business priorities.
  • Shadow and learn from the Executive Team Lead (ETL) mentor and other leaders within the organization to gain insights into their roles and responsibilities.
  • Lead the team in executing daily tasks such as stocking shelves, creating a safe and welcoming environment for guests, and building attractive displays.
  • Collaborate with leaders to address team member performance by providing training, coaching, and timely feedback.
  • Address team member concerns and proactively remove obstacles to ensure smooth operations and goal achievement.
  • Lead and participate in daily huddles with peer and leadership teams, presenting relevant information.
  • Plan and organize daily goals within the store, and provide summaries of results and priorities to the peer and leadership teams.
  • Conduct follow-ups on team member attendance and provide necessary coaching as needed.
  • Collaborate with store leaders to establish goals and expectations on a daily basis.
  • Utilize business reporting and guest insights to identify and address areas of opportunity, working closely with store leaders.
  • Ensure team members are knowledgeable and empowered to deliver an exceptional guest experience and resolve any issues that may arise.
  • Offer innovative ideas and recommend solutions to improve business operations or address team-related challenges.
  • Proactively seek opportunities for personal growth and development, embracing the role of a Target leader and actively learning throughout the internship experience.
  • Embrace Target’s leadership expectations, seeking feedback and asking questions to foster personal growth.
  • Participating actively in internship program training activities, developmental opportunities, and events.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to take calculated risks, step out of the comfort zone, and take on new assignments.
  • Uphold a culture of ethical conduct, safety, and compliance, and encourage the team to do the same.

Requirements:

Interns are preferred to have the following:

  • Prior retail experience is desirable but not mandatory.
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for working in the retail industry, particularly in a management role within our stores.
  • Possess leadership abilities and a mindset focused on teamwork.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to evolving technological requirements.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Proficient in managing workload and effectively prioritizing tasks.
  • Maintain a friendly and helpful demeanor.
  • Strong communication skills that facilitate effective interactions.

Payment:

Interns accepted to this opportunity will receive $16.30 – $27.69 per hour.
