The 2024 Women in Engineering (WomEng) Southern Africa Fellowship Program is currently accepting applications.
The WomEng Southern Africa Fellowship, supported by De Beers Group, helps young engineering and technology graduates flourish in the industry and beyond by fostering the development of leadership, creativity, well-being, and employability skills.
The WomEng Southern Africa Fellowship 2024 is a unique hybrid learning program that gives Fellows the tools they need to succeed in the workplace of the future. The program consists of live virtual master courses and frequent WhatsApp online discussions. Beginning in March 2024, the program will consist of three (3) modules, each of which will require an assignment and feedback. The program’s goal is to mold young women into self-assured leaders in industry who can traverse the working world as engineers and technologists. Soon-to-be engineering graduates from Botswana, Namibia, and South Africa are eligible to apply for the program.
The following three (3) modules will be covered:
Module 1: Telling Your Own Story and Unlocking Your Potential
Module 2: Innovation: Building Capabilities for the Post-War World
Module 3: Getting Hired and Succeeding in the Office
One component of the courses designed to assist fellows in developing good coping strategies and de-stressing will be wellness, including learning how to rejuvenate and take care of oneself. The Fellows shall be female full-time students at a university or university of technology in South Africa, Botswana, or Namibia who are majoring in engineering, technology, or built environment.
- All female students studying engineering, technology, and the built environment are welcome to apply.
The candidates have to be enrolled full-time in a university or university of technology in Namibia, Botswana, or South Africa. - Those who are not citizens of Namibia, Botswana, or South Africa may submit an application.
- Candidates must be enrolled full-time in postgraduate programs or in their second to last year of undergraduate education, meaning they must start working in 2025 or 2026.
- To take part in the program, applicants must be able to dedicate seven to nine hours per month starting in March 2024.
- The curriculum is created with anticipated academic burdens and vacation time in mind.
- Alumni of the WomEng Fellowship are not eligible to apply.
