Carnival Volunteering at a Samba School in Brazil - Rio de Janeiro

Summary:

International Volunteer HQ’s Carnival project enables volunteers to get behind the scenes of organize one of the world’s biggest parties. Carnival (known in Brazil as Carnaval) takes place on the streets of Rio once a year and Samba schools competing in it have a full year of intense work to prepare the many costumes, floats, music and dances for the celebration. Volunteers are invaluable in helping with their many hours of preparation. Moreover, the project offers flexible durations ranging from 2 to 24 weeks, allowing you to choose the volunteering period that aligns with your availability.

Fees:

The fees and the number of weeks vary depending on the volunteer’s choice, with program fees starting from $570 for 2 weeks. Additionally, all programs attract a registration fee of US$329, which covers all pre-departure support services. The program fee includes accommodation, daily breakfast, orientation and 24/7 support.

Aims:

  • Support Samba schools and ensure a successful and vibrant Carnival experience by assisting in the various tasks involved in preparing for the celebrations, including cutting, pasting, and creating costumes.
  • Promote inclusivity and empowerment by volunteering to help low-income communities from favelas participate in and showcase their cultural heritage during the Carnival, which is an important tradition for these communities.
  • Foster personal growth, provide a unique perspective on Brazil’s culture, and enhance communication skills by offering volunteers the opportunity to practice Portuguese and gain hands-on experience in arts, crafts, music, and dance during their participation in the Carnival volunteering program.
