User Experience Design and Content Intern, Summer 2024

Description:

Northwestern Mutual internship program offers a full-time on-site experience for selected candidates, spanning from June 2024 to August 2024.

Chosen from various universities nationwide, Northwestern Mutual interns bring unique ideas and perspectives to the organization. Northwestern Mutual has a dedicated focus on nurturing and developing emerging talents and future leaders. Following the application process and initial screening conversation, interns undergo interviews and are subsequently hired for specific teams at Northwestern Mutual that align with their skillsets and interests. This approach provides them with the opportunity to gain firsthand exposure to real-world business perspectives, engaging in hands-on learning and meaningful projects.

In addition to their assigned tasks, interns actively participate in professional development workshops, engage in Q&A sessions with senior leadership, contribute to volunteer initiatives, and attend networking and social events, among other enriching experiences.

As a UX Design Intern, you will collaborate closely with your hiring manager, mentor, and team to undertake essential tasks that contribute to Northwestern Mutual’s success. We aim to support you in identifying and further cultivating your career goals and interests.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate in the development of content strategies that prioritize human-centered design principles.
  • Create and refine content for various platforms, including intranet pages and team presentations.
  • Conduct content audits to evaluate and provide recommendations for enhancing content consistency, clarity, voice, and tone.
  • Assist in the maintenance of content style guides and guidelines for voice and tone.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that content aligns with departmental objectives while adhering to UX best practices.
  • Engage in user research activities and participate in team discussions to gain valuable insights into user preferences and behaviors.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and best practices in UX writing and content strategy.

Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in Graphic Design, Communication Arts, Digital Design, Industrial Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Journalism, Advertising, Communications, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Maintains a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  • Previous experience in user experience design, color theory, communication, journalism, or industrial design, either through work or classroom settings.
  • Submission of a portfolio link as part of the application process.
  • This role does not offer employer immigration sponsorship.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
