Summary
Calling all engineering enthusiasts! Join the innovative team at MTS Systems Corporation as a Transducer Engineering Intern for the Ground Round Vehicle (GRV) group this summer. This internship offers a hands-on opportunity to contribute to the development and improvement of cutting-edge testing systems used in the automotive industry. You’ll gain valuable experience working alongside experienced engineers, applying classroom knowledge to real-world challenges in transducer design and calibration.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a closely related field (minimum of 12 credits completed within the last year).
- Possess a strong foundation in engineering mechanics, including statics, dynamics, and material properties.
- Demonstrate a keen interest in mechanical design, measurement systems, and the application of engineering principles to practical problems.
- Exhibit excellent written and verbal communication skills to collaborate effectively and present technical information clearly.
- Proficiency in engineering design software (e.g. SolidWorks, AutoCAD) is preferred. Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) software is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the design, analysis, and testing of transducers used in MTS’s GRV testing systems.
- Participate in troubleshooting and solving technical issues related to transducer performance and calibration procedures.
- Gain exposure to finite element analysis (FEA) and its application in transducer design optimization. (Only if FEA experience is a plus in qualifications)
- Contribute to the creation and revision of technical documentation, including engineering drawings and test reports.
- Conduct research and analyze data to improve the accuracy and efficiency of transducer calibration methods.
Benefits
- Gain valuable hands-on experience in the exciting field of transducer engineering within a leading automotive testing systems company.
- Develop transferable skills in mechanical design, finite element analysis (if applicable), technical writing, and data analysis.
- Learn from experienced engineers and gain insights into the design, development, and calibration of high-precision transducers.
- Network with industry professionals and potentially build connections for future career opportunities in engineering.
- Earn a competitive hourly wage (salary information not publicly available, but MTS internships are known to be competitive).
Location
The internship will be located at the MTS Systems Corporation facility in Eden Prairie, Minnesota.
