Summary:

WARA Post-doctoral Fellowship is a program that supports transatlantic exchange and collaboration between West African and US scholars. The fellowship provides funding for 2 to 3 months of research in West Africa during the summer. Here is some more information about the fellowship:

The application deadline is March 3, 2024.

Application Requirements:

  • The applicant must be a US citizen with a Ph.D. and an affiliation with an academic institution or a related domain.
  •  The applicant must submit a proposal for a research project that contributes to the mission of WARA and the applicant’s academic field.
  • The applicant must also submit an abstract, a resume or CV, an itemized budget, a bibliography, two letters of reference, and a proof of citizenship.

Fellowship Benefits:

  • WARA will cover the round-trip travel costs of the selected fellow up to $2,500 and provide a stipend of up to $3,500 for meals and local transportation.
  • The host institution in West Africa will provide additional support such as housing, office space, library privileges, laboratory facilities, or other resources.
  • The fellow will have the opportunity to complete or elaborate on an earlier project, initiate a new research project, or enhance their understanding of a particular topic.

Fellowship Type:

  • The fellowship is a short-term exchange program that is not intended to fill faculty positions.
  • The fellowship is open to scholars from any discipline and any West African country.
  • The fellowship duration is 2 to 3 months, depending on the availability and preferences of the fellow and the host institution.

Award Fellowships:

  • The number of fellowships awarded each year depends on the availability of funds and the quality of applications.
  • The selection of fellows is based on a competitive and peer-reviewed process by a committee of WARA board members and staff.
  • The selected fellows will be notified by April 15, 2024 and are expected to complete their residencies by September 30, 2024.
