The HIVR4P Journalist Fellowship

Fellowship Programme

Selected individuals from all over the world can apply for financial assistance through the HIVR4P 2024 Journalist Fellowship Program to attend HIVR4P 2024 in person. The goal of the HIVR4P Journalist Fellowship Program is to increase journalists’ ability to cover biological HIV prevention and to produce high-profile media coverage of developments and obstacles in prevention research, particularly in areas where the pandemic is most acutely felt. The program is meant for people who otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford to attend HIVR4P 2024.

Requirements:

Journalists who will be at least eighteen (age) at the time of the conference and who work for or are assigned to a reputable print, radio, broadcast, or online consumer, medical, community-based, or HIV service organization-sponsored media outlet are eligible to apply for the HIVR4P 2024 Journalist Fellowship Programme.

Priority will be given to journalists who:

  • Work for prestigious national or worldwide media organizations, regardless of the medium, with a broad reach throughout the region, the country, or the world.
  • Show a strong dedication to reporting on HIV and/or infectious diseases. Obtain permission from their media outlet to attend and cover the conference.
  • Individuals representing publications with a track record of covering infectious diseases, HIV in particular, and global health issues in general will be given preference.
    represent countries or regions of interest, such as South and Southeast Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, the Middle East and North Africa, central, eastern, southern, and western Africa, and eastern Europe and central Asia, or are situated in environments with limited resources.
  • Are members of important demographics or HIV-positive
  • possess a solid command of the English language

Journalist fellows must be available to attend for the full duration of the conference (6 to 10 October, inclusive) as well as any bespoke media training organized as part of the Journalist Fellowship Programme.

Attendance type

The in-person plus virtual journalist fellowship includes:

  • Enrollment for live attendance at all conference sessions, satellite sessions, and poster displays
  • All conference sessions, including satellite sessions that are streamed live on the virtual platform, session recordings, on-demand content, and e-posters, will be accessible online both during and after the conference.
  • Travel assistance (a pre-paid return economy class ticket from the closest international airport in your home country) is provided for the conference dates.
  • lodging (a single room at a low-cost hotel) throughout the conference’s duration
  • Activities and training for media people pertaining to the conference.

Application process:

  • The application process is entirely free.
  • Application forms, as well as supporting documentation, must be completed in full and in English to be considered. Supporting documentation must also be in English.
  • Applications will be accepted until 10 April 2024, 23:59 Central European Summer Time (CEST).
  • All applications will be considered equally until this time. Applications are not on a first-come, firstserved basis.
