Taylor/Blakeslee Graduate Fellowships 2024-2025
- Summary: Taylor/Blakeslee Graduate Fellowships 2024-2025 are offered by the Council for the Advancement of Science Writing to support journalists and students who want to pursue graduate-level programs in science writing for the general public. Science writing covers topics such as science, medicine, health, technology, and the environment.
1. Application requirements: Applicants must be U.S.-based journalists with at least two years of mass media experience or students with an undergraduate degree and a demonstrated interest in science journalism. They must also have a letter of recommendation and a pledge of support from their employer or a regular client. They must be accepted by at least one graduate program in science writing before the application deadline, unless the program has a later acceptance date. They must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
2. Fellowship benefits: The fellowship provides $6,000 to help cover the costs of the graduate program, such as tuition, fees, living expenses, equipment, and travel. It also includes customized seminars and workshops at the annual conferences of AHCJ, SEJ, and CASW/NASW, as well as virtual events, professional mentoring, and membership in these journalism organizations. For freelancers, there is an additional reporting project support stipend of $2,000 after completing the program.
3. Fellowship type: The fellowship is a one-year program that runs from April 2024 to November 2024. It is a development opportunity for journalists and students who aspire to careers in science writing for the general public. The fellowship does not fund internships.
4. Award Fellowships: The fellowship will award 12 fellowships to selected applicants. The deadline to apply is March 18, 2024. The fellows will be announced in March 2024. The fellowship honors the late Rennie Taylor and Alton Blakeslee, former science writers and editors of Associated Press.
