ESC volunteer for The Vigdís International Centre for Multilingualism

ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION:

The Vigdís International Centre for Multilingualism and Intercultural Understanding is a UNESCO Category 2 Center based at the University of Iceland. The main objectives of the Center are to promote multilingualism, raise awareness of the importance of language as a core element of the cultural heritage of mankind, promote translation and translation studies, work on the preservation of languages, and promote research and education in languages and cultures. Currently, indigenous languages and languages with small numbers of native speakers are a priority of the Center. Within this framework, the focus of the Center is on the languages of the West Nordic Region and of the Romani people. The Center is a multicultural environment that hosts research projects and organizes events for specialists and the public. The tasks involve helping organize and host events such as lectures by international guests, thematic film screenings, and supporting researchers with research on indigenous languages.

TRAINING DURING THE ACTIVITY:

AUS ICYE Iceland will organize an introduction training upon arrival. On-arrival and mid-term training organized by Iceland’s National Agency are compulsory. The University of Iceland will provide training during the activity as seen as relevant.
