Digital Humanities Research Grant 2024: Funding for PhD Students at Northwestern University

Summary:

The Digital Humanities Research Grant by Northwestern University 2024 provides partial funding for Ph.D. students working on creative and academic projects involving digital technologies in the field of Digital Humanities. This scholarship, offered by Northwestern University, offers up to USD 3,000 to cover non-compensation expenses. The application deadline for this grant is April 15, 2024, and it is open to applicants of all nationalities.

Application Requirements:

  • Ph.D. students in the humanities from the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences or the School of Communication are eligible.
  • Candidates must have completed at least three-quarters of full-time, full-tuition registration at the time of application, with an exception possible for those starting the project in the summer after their first year.
  • Students who have exceeded their degree program’s time limit are ineligible.

Fellowship Benefits:

  • The grant provides partial funding of up to USD 3,000 for non-compensation expenses related to the research project.

Application Process:

  • Applicants must submit the following materials through The Graduate School’s online grant/fellowship application tool: project description, itemized budget, curriculum vitae (PDF), unofficial Northwestern transcript (PDF), and a letter of recommendation.
  • The deadline for submission is April 15, 2024, with letters of recommendation due by April 19, 11:59 pm.

Important Note:

  • Students traveling outside of the United States must comply with graduate student travel policies to maintain eligibility for the grant.

Non-Allowable Costs:

  • Northwestern payroll costs for salary, overtime, special compensation, and additional pay are not covered.
  • Travel costs unrelated to the project, tuition costs for dissertation writing, transport costs for dissertation committee meetings, and charges incurred or committed before the application review and approval are also not allowed.
  • While purchases of computers or electronic equipment necessary for the research may be allowed under certain circumstances, their use and cost must be adequately justified in the budget and proposal.
