Supporting International Collaboration in Biennales and Festivals

Summary:

The British Council ’s Architecture, Design, and Fashion team is offering grants of up to £5,000 to support biennales and festivals. These grants serve two purposes:
  1. UK Biennales and Festivals: To present work by international designers.
  2. Biennales and Festivals Outside the UK: To present work by UK designers.
    • Eligibility Criteria:
      • Biennales and festivals outside the UK showcasing work by UK-based designers.
      • UK biennales and festivals showcasing work by international designers.
    • Priority Areas:
      • Activities in Official Development Assistance (ODA) recipient countries (for biennales and festivals outside the UK) or with designers based in those countries (for UK biennales and festivals).
      • Projects involving early-career designers (within 10 years of practice).
      • Collaborations between UK-based and international designers.

Terms of the Grant:

  • Grants cover costs related to the participation of architects or designers.
  • Each grant can be up to £5,000.
  • The British Council’s support must be acknowledged in promotional materials.
  • Applicants provide attendance figures and a project report upon completion.

Application Process:

  • Organizers supply information on selected designers, funding expenditure, and audience engagement.
  • Activities must take place between September 2024 and August 2025.
  • Application deadline: June 23, 2024.
  • Required documents include supporting documentation, examples of designer’s work, a letter of support from participating designers, and a diversity monitoring form (for UK applicants only).
