Honoring Fact-Checking Journalism in Africa

Long Summary:

The African Fact-Checking Awards, now in their eleventh year, recognize outstanding fact-checking journalism by media professionals across Africa. Entries are open to journalists, journalism students, and professional fact-checkers. There are three award categories:

    • Fact-Check of the Year by a Working Journalist
    • Fact-Check of the Year by a Professional Fact-Checker
    •  a Student Journalist Prizes:
    • Working Journalist and Professional Fact-Checker Winners: $3,000 prize each
    • Working Journalist and Professional Fact-Checker Runners-Up: $1,500 prize each
    • Student Journalist Winner: $2,000 prize
    • Student Journalist Runner-Up: $1,000 prize Eligibility:
    • Entries must be original work related to Africa, exposing misleading or incorrect claims.
    • Fact-checks must have been published or broadcast between July 1, 2023, and July 14, 2024. Judging Criteria:
    • Significance: Importance of the claim investigated for wider society.
    • Testing: Rigorous examination of available evidence.
    • Presentation: Clear and accessible reporting of evidence.
    • Impact: Influence on public debate. Application Deadline: July 14, 2024.
