You can choose to volunteer at a local goat ranch or assist young people in acquiring agricultural skills. Location:

The project is based in St. Mary Parish, a beautiful region on Jamaica’s northeast coast. You’ll be working either at a local goat ranch or with youth groups within this area.

Fees:

  • The program starts at an affordable rate of $525 for a one-week experience (check the IVHQ website for exact pricing). This fee is all-inclusive, covering:
    • Airport pickup upon arrival in Montego Bay
    • Orientation
    • Accommodation (often shared volunteer housing)
    • Meals (breakfast is common)
    • 24/7 in-country support throughout your stay

Volunteer Requirements:

  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older (family programs may also be available).
  • Prior experience is not required, but a willingness to learn, a positive attitude, and a passion for sustainability and community development are essential.
  • Your tasks will depend on your placement:
    • Goat Ranch: Assist with animal care, feeding, milking, and potentially cheesemaking (under supervision). Learn about sustainable ranch practices.
    • Youth Agriculture Program: Help young people develop agricultural skills through planting, harvesting, and learning about sustainable farming methods.
  • Basic English communication skills are necessary. While additional language skills are not required, some knowledge of Jamaican Patois can be beneficial for cultural immersion and communication within the local community.
