UNHCR Supply Assistant Job Posting (Summary)

Location: ADDIS ABABA Job Type: Full-time Temporary Assignment (6 months) Grade: GS-6 Staff  Deadline: Sep 1, 2024

About the Role:

The Supply Assistant is responsible for supporting all aspects of the UNHCR’s supply chain in ADDIS ABABA, Yemen. This includes planning, procurement, transportation, customs clearance, warehousing, asset & fleet management, and monitoring.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure timely delivery of goods and services to refugees according to UNHCR rules and procedures.
  • Prepare plans for delivering relief and non-food items.
  • Apply UNHCR sourcing & procurement strategies for purchasing commodities and services.
  • Maintain accurate records on supply activities and provide reports.
  • Evaluate purchase requisitions and ensure they meet specifications.
  • Draft and dispatch requests for quotations or tenders, and assist in evaluating offers.
  • Prepare Purchase Orders and monitor the manufacture/transport of ordered goods.
  • Provide guidance on UNHCR procurement policies to requesting entities.
  • Manage storage of goods according to best practices and UNHCR regulations.
  • Implement effective asset and fleet management.
  • Monitor the quality and accuracy of supply chain data.
  • Support country needs assessment plans and combine them into regional procurement plans.
  • Ensure local liaison with partners to support supply activities (Country Operations only).

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 3 years of relevant experience with a High School Diploma OR 2 years with a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent).
  • Trade, Business Administration, Economics, Marketing, or a related field (certificate preferred).
  • Knowledge of English and the UN working language of the duty station (Arabic in this case).
  • Strong analytical and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with humanitarian organizations.
  • Understanding of humanitarian logistics and supply chain challenges.
  • Experience in customs clearance procedures.
  • Expertise in handling customs documentation.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills in English and Arabic.
