The United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) is part of UN agencies that are responsible for providing leadership, operational support, and oversight of the security management system to enable the safest and most efficient conduct of the security programs and activities of the United Nations System. By the overall management of the Principal Security Adviser of UNDSS Integrated Security Work-plan, Somalia, the obligatory will report to the Chief Security Officer.

Education & Qualifications Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • experience in investigations, security coordination, and operational planning.
  • Diploma certificates in a field of study that is directly related to security, safety, and management.
  • Security Certification Program (SCP) Certificate.
  • Security Analysis Process and Practice (SAPP) Certificate.

Experience

  • Must have a minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible security management experience.
  • Must have minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to five (5) years for candidates who possess a first-level University Degree.
  • Must have at least two years of experience and exposure at the international level.
  • Must have at least one year of experience in a conflict and conflict environment.
  • Experience in security risk assessments, and security analysis.

Languages

  • Fluency in the English language is Required (both oral and written).
  • Having a knowledge of another official UN language is desirable (French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish) both oral and written.

Professionalism: Professionalism implies having a solid foundation in security management, with a supporting background in military, police, or security specialization. Have the ability to manage security challenges in conflict environments. They must have management in diverse security units, take pride in their work, and demonstrate professional competence. The applicant to this position should be conscientious, efficient, and motivated by professional rather than personal concerns, exhibiting persistence in the face of difficulties and maintaining composure in stressful situations. Additionally, they are responsible for incorporating gender perspectives and ensuring equal participation of women and men in all work areas.

Effective communication: The applicants must have Effective communication skills in encompassing clear and articulate speaking and writing. The individual should also be adept at listening, interpreting messages accurately, and responding appropriately. Asking clarifying questions, engaging in two-way communication, and adjusting language to suit the audience are essential aspects of effective communication. Furthermore, openness in sharing information and keeping others informed is emphasized.

Teamwork: The applicants must have the ability to work in a team and collaborate with colleagues to achieve organizational goals.
