STARTS4AFRICA Artist Residency

STARTS4AFRICA Artist Residency - Nigeria 2024

The STARTS4AFRICA Artist Residency is a program that invites artists from Sub-Saharan Africa and Europe to collaborate with local institutions and experts in Nigeria and create art-driven innovations that address regional challenges and The program is a six-month residency that starts in March 2024 and ends with a two-month outreach phase. The program focuses on seven themes related to social, environmental, and cultural issues in Nigeria. The program is funded by the Visa Foundation and run by STARTS and Plug and Play.

– Application requirements: Applicants must be either nationals or permanent residents of Sub-Saharan African countries, or artistic teams composed of both African and European artists. They must also have previous experience in working at the intersection of science, technology, and arts, and propose a project that aligns with one of the themes of the program.

– Fellowship benefits: Selected artists will receive up to €35,000 to cover their fees, production costs, and participation in events and exhibitions. They will also have access to the facilities and resources of the host institutions, as well as mentoring, networking, and training opportunities. They will also be considered for further investment and exposure by Visa, Plug and Play, and other partners.

– Fellowship type: The program is a residency program that requires the artists to co-develop, test, and launch their projects with the host institutions and local experts. They will also have to attend and organize online and on-site events, masterclasses, and seminars to share their experiences and promote their results. They will also have to submit a final report and a descriptive abstract of their projects at the end of the program.

– Award Fellowships: The program is awarded by STARTS and Plug and Play, with funding from the Visa Foundation. The number of fellowships awarded each year depends on the quality and fit of the applicants.
