Fees:

  • The program starts at an affordable rate, typically around $525 for a one-week experience (check IVHQ website for exact pricing).
  • This fee is all-inclusive, covering airport pickup upon arrival in Montego Bay, orientation, accommodation (often shared volunteer housing), meals (breakfast is common), and 24/7 in-country support throughout your stay.

Volunteer Requirements:

  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older (family programs may also be available).
  • Prior experience coaching sports is beneficial but not mandatory. A passion for sports, a positive attitude, and a desire to work with children and youth are essential.
  • You’ll be involved in activities such as:
    • Assisting with physical education classes
    • Organizing and leading sports games and activities (e.g., soccer, basketball, track and field)
    • Encouraging participation and fostering a fun and inclusive environment
    • Potentially teaching new sports or games
  • Basic English communication skills are necessary. While additional language skills are not required, some knowledge of Jamaican Patois can be beneficial for cultural immersion and potentially even communication with children or families.
  • IVHQ may offer optional training or resources to prepare you for working with children and youth in a new cultural context, and to introduce you to popular local sports.
