ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION

We are searching for both long-term and short-term veterinarian volunteers to serve in Sinop, Turkiye’s stray dog and cat shelter. Volunteers will help with tasks including treatment, surgery, check-ups, and maintaining the sickness progression record for the employed veterinarian and staff. The primary goal of the shelter is to combat parvoviral enteritis, panleukopenia, and distemper. Thus, the volunteers will focus on these illnesses’ treatments. The volunteer’s responsibilities will include feeding the sick, old, and orphans (hand-parenting them). Outside of the animal shelter, volunteer responsibilities include planning adoption events, organizing food drives and fund-raising campaigns, participating in rescue missions, and leading city tours to feed the wandering animals.

TRAINING DURING THE ACTIVITY

The volunteer will learn the following: The first aid for cats and dogs Cat and dog sterilization (male and female) Diagnosis and treatment in internal medicine; traumatic surgery and amputation Post-op care: distemper, Panleukopenia and parvoviral enteritis treatment nursing the orphans (hand rearing); daily check-ups of the patients and babies; cooking, especially for the babies and the patients, and feeding them.

PARTICIPANT PROFILE

We are looking for a vet, a vet student, a vet nurse, or a vet nurse student. Volunteers should be passionate about their work and eager to develop their competencies. I am also able to live with other volunteers of diverse nationalities.
