(RSTMH) Empowering Early-Caree

Summary:

The Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (RSTMH) sponsors the Early Career Grants Programme, which provides more than 200 grants each year to support early-career individuals in conducting their first research projects in tropical medicine or global health. The grants aim to enable early-career researchers and global health professionals to carry out clinical or scientific research and/or fieldwork, either as standalone projects or as part of larger initiatives. The programme has been running for over 40 years and has experienced significant growth, with more than 800 awards distributed across 66 countries since 2017.

Eligibility:

The Early Career Grants are open to applicants from anywhere in the world, irrespective of nationality. applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Should not have previously received research funding of £5,000 or more in their name. They must have a
  • They must have a well-defined research plan requiring support.
  • Although preference is given to applicants with formal affiliation or employment, the grants program also considers applications from individuals without such affiliations or employment.
  • Adequate supervision should be available throughout the project, and the supervisor should remain involved for its duration.
  • Applicants must have appropriate insurance to carry out the research.
  • Applicants are required to possess a registered bank account capable of accepting GBP since grant funds are disbursed to personal accounts rather than institutional accounts.
  • Previous recipients of RSTMH grants are not eligible.
  • Applicant are allowed to submit only one application per year for an RSTMH grant.
  • Applicant cannot be RSTMH global assessors in the same year.
  • Applicants cannot seek funding for projects that have already commenced or been completed.
  • Applicants cannot serve as named supervisors or referees on an RSTMH grant application in the same year.

Benefits:

The maximum award for an RSTMH Early Career Grant is GBP £5,000, inclusive of any applicable taxes on purchases.
