Summary:

Reed College is pleased to offer the Edward B. Segel Fellowship for International Study to talented and motivated students. The fellowship provides financial support of $50,000 to a maximum of two recipients annually, enabling them to attend a year-long graduate program worldwide.

Eligible Countries:
United States and Canada

Acceptable Course or Subjects:
Any graduate degree program related to the disciplines represented in the Division of History and Social Sciences at Reed College, with a preference for areas such as history, politics, economics, sociology, anthropology, or law of international relations, foreign policy, or areas outside the United States and Canada.

Admissible Criteria:
Applicants must be graduating Reed seniors or alumni within two years of the application deadline, planning to enter a graduate program within a year after the application deadline. The program of study must have an international focus within the specified disciplines.

Application Process:

To apply for this fellowship:
1. Enroll in a graduate program at Reed College.
2. Complete an online application form for the scholarship.
3. Submit the following supporting documents:
– Resume (not exceeding two letter size pages)
– Reed Transcript (official or unofficial)
– Academic Statement (no more than 350 words)
– Personal Statement (no more than 750 words)
– Program List (up to three programs with degree level, program/course name, institution, and URL)
– Demonstrate eligibility and strong candidacy, but acceptance into the chosen degree program is not required.
– Submit scores of English language proficiency tests (SAT, ACT, TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo) as per the specified requirements.

Benefits:

The Edward B. Segel Fellowship provides $50,000 in funding for one year of full-time international study at a recognized academic institution. Any remaining funds beyond course or program fees are considered a stipend for the fellow. Fellows are responsible for taxes and can receive funds in two payments or as a lump sum. No additional funding is available from this fellowship.
