The People Analytics team at Google is comprised of a dedicated group of social scientists who specialize in conducting experimental, survey, and archival research to support decision-making processes within the organization. This team consists of talented researchers with expertise in various disciplines, including I/O Psychology, Organizational Behavior, Sociology, Social Psychology, Anthropology, Behavioral Economics, and related fields.
As interns in the People Analytics department, candidates will have the exceptional opportunity to work alongside this esteemed team of researchers, gaining valuable hands-on experience in conducting research and supporting data-driven decision-making. The internship program offers a unique and immersive experience, allowing interns to actively contribute to projects that span a wide range of areas, including decision making, diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), leadership, employee well-being, hiring, performance management, performance development, personality, longitudinal data analysis, and social networks.
Interns will have the chance to engage in various aspects of the research process, including experimental design, data collection, data analysis, and the interpretation of research findings. Working closely with experienced researchers, interns will be able to learn from their expertise and make meaningful contributions to ongoing projects. This hands-on experience will provide interns with a comprehensive understanding of the research process and its application within a large-scale organization like Google.
Minimum Requirements:
- Currently pursuing a PhD in fields such as Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Organizational Behavior, Personality Psychology, Social Psychology, or a related discipline.
- Experience in designing, developing, and conducting survey or experimental research.
- Proficiency in analyzing and manipulating data using statistical languages like R, SPSS, STATA, or others.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a degree program in the United States and available to work full-time for 12 weeks during non-university terms.
- Practical experience in conducting applied research within organizational settings.
- Specialized knowledge in areas such as performance management, individual and team-level performance and productivity, individual differences (e.g., personality traits, behaviors, well-being), diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), selection and assessment (including relevant psychometric methods), decision science and behavior change, or quantitative text analysis.
- Proficiency in statistical analyses, including foundational techniques like ANOVAs and regressions, as well as advanced approaches such as factor analysis, network analysis, hierarchical linear modeling (HLM), and structural equation modeling (SEM).
- Strong skills in using R for statistical analysis and data visualization.
- Familiarity with SQL and/or other scripting languages, and experience in ensuring code longevity through detailed documentation.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the People Analytics team to design and execute new research studies, analyze data, and deliver research findings to a business-oriented audience.
- Effectively communicate research insights and recommendations to influence leaders and drive action based on the results.
- Prepare concise research briefs summarizing key findings and their implications.
- Conduct statistical analyses, such as correlation, regression, factor analysis, T-test, ANOVA, utilizing survey and archival data, with a focus on utilizing R for analysis.
