Qualifications/Special Skills
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: (a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or,
(b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent). While no prior work experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme, please list any relevant trainings, skills and experiences which may be of help in your role as the Outreach Intern.
Languages:
- Fluency in both English and French, oral and written, is required for this position.
Key Responsibilities Career:
- Help envision, plan, organize, conduct, and evaluate the 62nd edition of the Graduate Study Programme, the longest-running educational initiative of the United Nations, which will be held in July 2024;
- Contribute to the organization of other outreach events, such as the International Day of UN Peacekeepers and regular Ciné-ONU movie screenings and discussions.
- Use the UNIS Trello Boards to plan, create and curate social media content for @UNGeneva platforms, maintain and update weekly editorial calendars, collect and collate multimedia information from different departments and organizations;
- Take the lead in daily media monitoring of Swiss newspapers (in French, German, Italian, and English), with the help of other UNIS interns;
- Prepare monthly and ad-hoc analyses of the writings of Swiss media;
- Attend biweekly press briefings; draft press briefing summaries (in English);
- Attending meetings of human rights treaty bodies, the Human Rights Council, and other major events, and draft press releases (in English and/or in French);
- Draft stories, in English and in French, on events and developments at UN Geneva, to be reviewed, edited, and possibly published on iSeek (the UN Intranet), UN Geneva website, or various other publications;
- Carry out other tasks as requested by the United Nations Information Service.
