News Media Specialist Volunteer
Onsite News Media Specialist Volunteer with UNEP at Kenya
Summary:
This opportunity is open for all nationalities (other than Kenyan) who are aged between 18 to 80. It will be for 12 months and the volunteer is expected to start at 02/09/2024.
Volunteer’s tasks may include but not limited to the following:
- Draft content for publication in news media and UNEP channels;
- Prepare regular analytics reports on UNEP’s news media activity;
- Implement news writing and media engagement for UNEP digital campaigns;
- Identify opportunities for interviews for UNEP spokespeople;
- Monitor the UNEP NEWSdesk email account for questions from journalists;
- Conduct research on news media developments and analytics tactics;
- Participate in and conduct staff trainings on various elements of news media work;
- Coordinate with UNEP’s account managers and pillar leads to ensure effective inclusion of news media aspects into comms activities as required;
- Respond to content management issues that arise in the daily performance of the activities;
- Serve as the news media monitoring focal point for report launches and other initiatives
- Liaise with UNEP Regional Offices as necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Location:
The assignment will be at Nairobi, Kenya.
Requirements:
- Bachelor degree or equivalent in Communications, International Relations, Journalism or related field.
- 5 years of experience in media writing, engagement and monitoring;
- Expertise in creating messaging to attract accurate, informative media pieces, pitching, conducting news campaigns, and tracking media coverage
- Strong experience creating and placing media assets – opinion pieces, press releases, key messages, media advisories, etc;
- Knowledge and experience using media monitoring, analytics and scheduling tools.
- Fluency in English is required.
