Depending on the team, the 2024 summer internships will be located either at the Los Gatos, CA office or the Los Angeles, CA office, subject to prevailing conditions.

Market indicators are relied upon to determine compensation, while also taking into account the intern’s specific job, skills, experience, and location. As a result, intern compensation may vary based on these factors.
As an intern in the Video Encoding team, you will play a crucial role in the advancement of Netflix Cloud Games’ video encoding pipeline. The primary objective within this area is to optimize the quality of experience (QoE) for cloud gaming while ensuring efficient operations. This will involve innovative approaches to video encoding and video quality, and you will have the opportunity for hands-on involvement. Proficiency in video encoding, low-level programming in C/C++, and the ability to optimize performance in resource-limited systems are essential. Experience in ML-based image processing is considered advantageous.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in an MS/MA or PhD program in a technical field such as Computer Science, Engineering, Math, or Statistics, with an anticipated graduation date around December 2024 or Spring/Summer 2025.
- Thrives in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Effective communication skills, demonstrating clarity and conciseness in both verbal and written forms.
- Possesses excellent software development abilities and familiarity with software engineering best practices, including version control, testing, and code review.
- Demonstrates a successful track record in research related to Video Algorithms and Coding or closely related fields such as Computer Graphics, Video Processing, Computer Vision, or Video Quality.
Preferred skills and proficiencies:

- Proficiency in cloud gaming or game streaming.
- Experience in optimizing software performance for resource-limited hardware.
- Familiarity with hardware video encoders and System-on-Chips (SoCs).
- Active participation in open-source multimedia projects, such as ffmpeg.
- Expertise in image and video quality assessment.
