Nature Awards for Mentoring in Science

Recognizing Outstanding Mentorship in Science (West Africa)

Summary:

These awards celebrate exceptional support and mentorship for early career researchers. The focus this year is on mentors in West Africa, as defined by the UN. Former mentees can nominate mentors who have significantly contributed to their careers.

Application Requirements:

Nominees may be nominated by colleagues or nominate themselves. Independent testimonials from five researchers mentored by the nominee are required.

Benefits:

Each award includes a cash prize of US$10,000 (shared if joint winners).

Type:

Two categories: Lifetime Achievement (for mentors awarded their PhD or Medical Doctorate before 1995) and Mid-Career Achievement (for mentors awarded their PhD or Medical Doctorate in or after 1995).

Attention West African Mentors in Science! Nominate for the Nature Awards

Applications Now Open (Deadline: May 31st, 2024)

Do you know an exceptional mentor who has significantly impacted the career of an early-stage researcher in West Africa? The Nature Awards for Mentoring in Science recognizes outstanding mentors and celebrates their dedication to fostering scientific growth. This year, the program focuses on mentors from West African countries (as defined by the UN).

Two Award Categories:

  • Lifetime Achievement: Honors mentors who received their PhD or MD before 1995.
  • Mid-Career Achievement: Recognizes mentors who received their PhD or MD in or after 1995.

Nominate a Deserving Mentor

Former mentees, colleagues, or the mentor themselves can submit nominations. Each nomination requires independent testimonials from five researchers mentored by the nominee.

Complete Submission Package:

  • Nominator Summary Form (FORM ONE)
  • Completed Nominee Form (FORM TWO) with nominee’s CV
  • Five Nomination Forms (one from the main nominator and four from supporting nominators)
