Summary: National Science-Health-Environment Reporting Fellowships 2024 are a joint initiative of three journalism organizations to support early-career journalists who are interested in covering science, health or environmental topics. The program aims to provide them with essential skills, resources and mentoring to enhance their reporting.

1. Application requirements: Applicants must be U.S.-based working journalists with at least two years of professional experience, either as staff or freelance. They must also have a letter of recommendation from their employer or a regular client, and a pledge of support for their participation in all training events.

2. Fellowship benefits: The fellowship offers various benefits, such as:
– Customized seminars and workshops at the annual conferences of AHCJ, SEJ, and CASW/NASW, including support for attendance, food, lodging, and travel within the U.S.
– A series of virtual events to learn from experts and trainers, and to update their skills and knowledge on science, health, medicine, and environment.
– A professional mentor in a topic area of choice.
– Two years’ membership in AHCJ, SEJ and NASW, assuming membership qualifications are met.
– Registration to any virtual events held by AHCJ, SEJ or CASW during the program year.
– For freelancers, a reporting project support stipend of $2,000 after successfully completing the program.

3. Fellowship type: The fellowship is a one-year program that runs from April 2024 to November 2024. It is a development opportunity for early-career journalists who want to pursue careers in science, health or environmental reporting, or all three.

4. Award Fellowships: The fellowship will award 12 fellowships to selected applicants. The deadline to apply is February 23, 2024. The fellows will be announced in March 2024.
