Joining the Network Connectivity business unit at CommScope as a Materials Engineering Intern, you will contribute to the development of material technologies for fiber optic closures. Working closely alongside materials engineers and product development teams, your primary focus will involve working with custom-formulated gel sealing materials. Through the creation and testing of gel prototypes, you will gain insights into the intricate relationship between formulations, processing methods, and material properties. This internship will be based in Apex, NC.

Responsibilities:

  • Diligently execute planned experiments.
  • Record, analyze, and present data to draw clear conclusions.
  • Contribute innovative ideas and identify areas for improvement in materials technology and evaluation techniques.
  • Foster effective collaboration with team members and stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Materials Science & Engineering, Polymer Science, or Chemical Engineering (with a Polymer focus) from an accredited university (upcoming sophomores, juniors, and seniors).
  • Demonstrated strong academic performance with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Possess basic awareness of laboratory procedures and chemical safety.
  • Must have unrestricted work authorization without requiring future sponsorship.
  • Military-affiliated candidates (Veterans, Military Spouses, and Guard/Reservists) are encouraged to apply.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in data analysis using Minitab.
  • Experience in mixing and casting two-part thermoset polymers.
  • Familiarity with programming test equipment.
  • Proficiency in crafting and prototyping simple components using CAD and 3D printing.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to propose innovative ideas to the team.
  • Effective multitasking and deadline management abilities.
  • Strategic and creative thinking, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proactive attitude, analytical mindset, attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and decision-making skills.
