Marine Conservation Volunteer

Marine Conservation Volunteer Program in Belize with International Volunteer HQ (IVHQ)

This program by IVHQ lets you actively participate in marine conservation efforts on a tiny private island off the coast of Belize. You’ll work alongside marine biologists, assisting with data collection, coral reef monitoring, and potentially even the removal of invasive species. This is a fantastic opportunity for ocean enthusiasts who want to make a real difference in preserving the stunning Belize Barrier Reef.

Sponsor:

International Volunteer HQ (IVHQ) is a well-respected organization that connects volunteers with impactful projects worldwide. They are the sponsor of this marine conservation program.

Location:

The project takes place on a private island situated 16 miles off the coast of Placencia in southern Belize. This secluded location offers stunning views and direct access to the vibrant coral reef ecosystem you’ll be helping to conserve.

Fees:

  • The program starts at an affordable rate of $1050 for a one-week experience.
  • This fee is all-inclusive, covering airport pickup upon arrival in Belize City, orientation, accommodation in volunteer housing on the island, most meals (breakfast and dinner), and 24/7 in-country support throughout your stay.

Volunteer Requirements:

  • Applicants must be 16 years of age or older (volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian).
  • Prior experience with scuba diving is not mandatory, but a PADI Open Water dive certification course can be obtained on the island for an additional fee. A strong swimming ability and comfort in the water are essential.
  • A passion for marine conservation, a willingness to learn, and a positive attitude are crucial for this program.
  • Volunteers will participate in scuba diving activities (at least twice daily) to identify marine life and monitor the coral reef ecosystem. A moderate level of physical fitness is recommended for these activities.
  • Basic English communication skills are necessary. While additional language skills are not required, some Spanish language proficiency may help interact with local staff or fellow volunteers.
