Summary

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited law school (minimum second-year student with good academic standing).
  • Familiarity with criminal law principles and procedures is preferred.
  • Excellent research, analytical, and writing skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with attorneys and other legal professionals.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines efficiently.
  • A high level of professionalism and a commitment to ethical conduct.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct legal research on relevant case law, statutes, and legal issues.
  • Assist attorneys with drafting legal documents, such as motions, briefs, and memoranda of law (as applicable under Supreme Judicial Court Rule 3:03).
  • Participate in case preparation by reviewing case files, conducting witness interviews (as applicable), and summarizing evidence.
  • Observe courtroom proceedings, including arraignments, pretrial hearings, and trials (under the supervision of a qualified attorney).
  • May have the opportunity to participate in pre-trial conferences and argue motions in court (depending on qualifications and under the supervision of a qualified attorney, subject to Supreme Judicial Court Rule 3:03).
  • Contribute to maintaining a positive and professional work environment within the District Attorney’s Office.
