Eligibility:
To be eligible for the JournalismFund European Cross-Border Grant Programme 2024, teams of journalists and/or news outlets from two or more countries in continental Europe can apply. In certain cases, team members from outside Europe can be accepted if relevant to the story. Applicants must be professional freelance journalists or news outlets with a track record, supported by personal references and/or previous work. News outlets must be legally registered entities operating for at least one year prior to the grant application deadline. The investigation proposal should focus on cross-border investigative journalism about European affairs, either within or outside of Europe. The investigation should be relevant to Europe. The programme supports investigations that transcend national borders as well as comparative investigations into local European issues and policies across multiple countries, regions, or cities. The investigation’s results must be published by at least two professional news outlets, with one of them being based in Europe. Letters of intent from two professional news outlets are required. The programme accepts investigative journalism published through various media formats, including print, online, broadcast, and cross-media. Grants are available for a range of journalistic outputs, such as articles, documentaries, photo-reportages, books, podcasts, and journalistic non-fiction works.
Benefits:
In 2024, the JournalismFund aims to allocate a grant budget of €900,000 across four application rounds, with €225,000 available per call. The fund provides support for expenses related to journalistic research across all media platforms. This can include costs such as travel, translation, access to paid databases, or dedicated research time. However, the fund does not cover fixed costs like office expenses, investments in equipment such as cameras or computers, or production costs
