Join the Fellowship to Strengthen Land Policies and Capacities

Postdoctoral research fellowships in African universities and research institutions are available from DAAD.

The DAAD sponsors a fellowship program in the field of land governance and land management for young scholars and professionals from African Union member states under the “Strengthening Advisory Capacities for Land Policy in Africa” (SLGA) initiative. Enhancing how African institutions and specialists carry out land policies is the goal.

Program Goals:

The program’s objective is to assist African institutions and specialists in implementing better land policies in a few chosen nations. Supporting the African Land Policy Centre (ALPC) in creating a Network of Excellence on Land Governance in Africa (NELGA) is a crucial area of action. Other important areas of focus include promoting needs-based research in Africa and actions for monitoring, evaluation, and knowledge exchange in this field, as well as enhancing training and further training capacities in the fields of land management and land policy in Africa.

Fellowships:

  • The goal of the NELGA Postdoctoral Fellowships is to advance science communication and demand-driven research on land governance in Africa. The fellowship program enhances institutional capacity for land governance and science-based land policy development by choosing deserving individuals who already have a relationship to key land policy institutions in Africa.
  • The goal of the NELGA Short-Term Research Fellowships is to increase the demand for open research subjects and issues in the areas of land management, land governance, and land policy in Africa by providing them to young African researchers pursuing post-graduate degrees.

Qualifiability Standards:

  • Having earned their PhD from a state-approved or state-recognized university.
  • possess expertise in land management, governance, or a related discipline (such as geomatics, urban and regional planning, land economics, or land administration).
  • be citizens of an African nation.
  • be given permission by their home institution to take time off in order to do research or fieldwork abroad. candidate who is female

Time Frame:

The fellowships can be held for up to a full year. Fundable months are just whole months. There is no renewal of the fellowship.

Value:

The fundamental fellowship includes:

  • a rate of 800 euros per month.
  • a training session conducted virtually on advocacy for research output Furthermore, assistance for the following may be provided upon request (depending on funding availability).
  • reimbursement of costs up to a maximum of EUR 1500 for scholarly publications in appropriate journals.
