Summary:
This position is located in the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Bogotá, Colombia, pursuant to Human Rights Council Resolution A/HRC/RES/53/22. The Human Rights Officer works under the direct supervision of the Civic Space Team Coordinator or designee, with the overall guidance of the Representative.

Job Details:
The Human Rights Officer will be responsible for planning and coordinating activities related to thematic and OHCHR Colombia mandate on human rights, collecting and analyzing human rights data, working on protection of human rights defenders and social leaders, and directing capacity-building efforts on human rights in Colombia.

Education & Qualifications
- Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in law, political science, international relations, social sciences or related field.
- A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Work Experiences:
- A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in human rights, political affairs, international relations, law or related area is required.
- Experience in human rights monitoring and reporting is desirable.
- Experience working with human rights defenders is desirable.
Languages:
Fluency in Spanish and English is required.
Key Responsibilities:

- Define work plans for the assigned area in accordance with established terms of reference.
- Assist country military and police in developing and implementing a training program in human rights, international humanitarian law, democracy, and the rule of law, with attention to gender perspectives.
- Supervise field verification work through periodic visits and follow up on different cases and situations verified by the regional offices.
- Represent the UN human rights program at working level meetings.
- Direct capacity-building efforts on human rights in Colombia.
- Write a variety of reports, communications, briefings, statements, etc., including to policy-making bodies.
- Perform other related duties as required.
