The George Lansell Memorial Scholarship is open to students in the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology or the Faculty of Science who are undertaking a higher degree by research in a field related to mining and metallurgy. Established through funds donated in 1907 by Mrs. Edith Lansell in commemoration of her late husband, George Lansell, this scholarship honors George’s legacy as a mining entrepreneur and his contributions to the mining industry in Australia. George Lansell migrated to Australia from England in 1853 and played a significant role in introducing the diamond drill to quartz mining in the Victorian town of Bendigo.
