Gender, Conflict & Peacebuilding - On Site Training Course

Course Description:

This training course offers policy, peacebuilding, and international development practitioners an in-depth examination of the intricate relationship between gender, violent conflict, security, and peacebuilding. Participants will critically analyze the impact of gender stereotypes on perceptions of war and peace, explore the intersectionality of gender with factors such as race, class, and nationality, and assess the strengths and limitations of the UN Security Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace, and Security.

Through case studies and policy framework evaluations, participants will gain insights into gender perspectives in areas such as mediation, conflict sensitivity, masculinities, militarism, feminist peacebuilding, and digitalization. The course equips participants with the necessary tools to understand the gendered dimensions of conflict and peacebuilding and develop programmatic approaches that address these complexities.

Understand the significance of gender analysis in comprehending, managing, and resolving violent conflict and peacebuilding.
Evaluate the relevance and limitations of gender mainstreaming in peacebuilding and policy formulation.
Explore gendered strategies, including those in the digital ecosystem, as new approaches to peacebuilding.
Integrate a gender-sensitive approach into programming.
Engage in knowledge sharing and networking with experts and peers to foster a community of practice.
Course Format:
The course comprises preparatory readings and a 3-day on-site training held at the kHaus in Basel from Wednesday to Friday. The daily schedule runs from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm and 2:00 pm to 5:30 pm (subject to change). Participants will receive the detailed program in advance.
