Role:

This role focuses on providing regular social interaction and emotional support to older people experiencing social isolation.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Active listening skills and a genuine interest in getting to know others
• Ability to build rapport and trust with seniors from diverse backgrounds
• Patience, understanding, and respect for individual needs
• Commitment to a regular volunteer schedule (flexible scheduling options available)

Responsibilities:

• Visit assigned seniors at their homes or residential care facilities on a regular basis (weekly or fortnightly)
• Engage in conversation, share stories, and listen attentively
• Participate in light activities together based on the senior’s interests (e.g., playing games, reading aloud, going for walks)
• Offer companionship and emotional support
• Respect the privacy and confidentiality of seniors
• Maintain regular communication with BVRC staff regarding visits
