- The Fred V. Grau Turfgrass Science Award is presented in recognition of significant career contributions in turfgrass science during the most recent 15 years.
- The evaluation criteria include:
- Significance and originality of basic and/or applied research
- Teaching ability and effectiveness
- Planning and implementation of extension programs
- Development and implementation of significant industrial programs
- Administrative ability and effectiveness
- total effect of national and international contributions to turfgrass science.

The award is sponsored by the Crop Science Society of America.
Eligibility:
- Nominees must be members of ASA, CSSA, and/or SSSA.
- Nominees must have a career interest of at least 15 years in turfgrass science.
- Nominees must be living at the time of their nomination.
- Former recipients of this award are not eligible.
- Teams are not eligible to be nominated.
