Summary

Calling all passionate foodies and social justice advocates! The University of Idaho, in partnership with the Ada County Extension Office, is offering a rewarding Summer Internship in Community Food Systems based in Boise, Idaho. This program allows you to delve into the world of local food systems, working to ensure equitable access to healthy food for all members of the community.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program (minimum 12 credits completed within the last year). Priority will be given to students from the University of Idaho but all qualified candidates are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong interest in food systems, sustainability, and social justice issues.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration and community engagement.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required (the internship may involve travel within the Treasure Valley).

Responsibilities

  • Assist with educational programs and workshops related to food preservation, nutrition, and gardening.
  • Participate in the operation of farmers markets, particularly those serving low-income and underserved communities.
  • Conduct research and compile data on local food resources and access needs within the Boise area.
  • Assist with social media outreach and communication efforts to promote healthy eating initiatives.
  • Help develop and distribute educational materials about local food systems.
