The First in Family Scholarship for Business is awarded to a commencing Business student who will be the first in their family to attend university and who has experienced disadvantage. Rural and regional students are encouraged to apply.

Eligibility / selection criteria

To be eligible for the Apollo Fund – First in Family Scholarship for Business, applicants must:

  1. Meet the following criteria:
    • be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, Australian Permanent Resident with Humanitarian visa or New Zealand citizen.
  2. Meet the following enrolment criteria​​​​:
    • be a commencing Swinburne student in 2024
    • enrolled full-time in an eligible course (see courses eligible in section above)
    • studying on-campus
  3. Meet the following criteria and provide evidence (via a statutory declaration):
    • Be the first in your family to attend university.
    • have no previous university qualifications.
  4. Provide ATAR certificate or academic transcript of any previous study.
  5. Provide a personal statement (500 words) outlining:
    • a passion for a career in Business/Accounting
    • career aspirations
    • why you feel you should be awarded the scholarship
    • if you come from a rural or regional area, please include details
  6. Provide evidence of financial hardship (such as Centrelink statement or bank statement) or personal hardship (can be detailed in personal statement).
  7. Provide evidence of any community participation such as extra-curricular service to the community, sporting participation and leadership qualities. Supporting documents can include, but not limited to:
    • Reference letter
    • Certificate of participation
  8. Provide two written referee reports outlining suitability for the scholarship:
    • an Academic reference – from a person qualified to comment on academic studies, such as a subject coordinator, school principal, etc;
    • a Character reference – from a person competent to supply a character reference such as current or past employer.

Value

The scholarship is valued at $10,000 per year, for up to three years.
