Northwestern Mutual internship program offers a full-time on-site experience for selected candidates, spanning from May 30, 2024, to August 9, 2024.
Chosen from various universities nationwide, Northwestern Mutual interns bring unique ideas and perspectives to the organization. Northwestern Mutual have a dedicated focus on nurturing and developing emerging talents and future leaders. Following the application process and initial screening conversation, interns undergo interviews and are subsequently hired for specific teams at Northwestern Mutual that align with their skillsets and interests. This approach provides them with the opportunity to gain firsthand exposure to real-world business perspectives, engaging in hands-on learning and meaningful projects.
In addition to their assigned tasks, interns actively participate in professional development workshops, engage in Q&A sessions with senior leadership, contribute to volunteer initiatives, and attend networking and social events, among other enriching experiences.
The Certified Financial Planner (CFP) Intern is an integral part of the Northwestern Mutual home office team, responsible for delivering financial planning services to NM financial representatives. Key responsibilities include handling investment paperwork, preparing proposals, inputting client information and financial data into NM’s proprietary planning software, and engaging in various planning-related activities.
Apart from leveraging your financial planning expertise to ensure the highest quality of planning advice, you will also have the opportunity to learn industry-standard software testing practices and software development processes through provided training and dedicated time. This role combines meticulous number verification, financial planning, and technical problem-solving. Our team consists of inquisitive and dedicated planners who continually strive to enhance the testing and validation of financial planning software.
Upon completion of the internship and graduation, full-time opportunities may include roles such as an Associate Financial Representative within a Northwestern Mutual financial representative’s team, as well as potential positions in the home office, such as Financial Planning Services or other relevant departments.
Qualifications:
- Senior year of college, starting in fall 2024, in a CFP-accredited program.
- Strong interest in pursuing a career in the financial services industry.

Responsibilities:
- Preparing financial plans, managing portfolios, conducting investment research and analysis, and ensuring the work is ready for review and approval by senior members of the financial planning team.
- Developing and applying foundational to intermediate-level skills and expertise in Financial Planning.
- Conducting investment research, generating reports, and performing analysis.
- Assisting with various projects that may involve operations, business development, wealth management, and investment management.
- Participating in weekly financial advisor calls.
- Undertaking any other assigned responsibilities as needed.
