Summary:

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a Finance and Budget Assistant volunteer. The UNV Finance & Budget Assistant, aged between 27 and 80 years old, must be a national or legal resident of Kenya. They will work under the direct supervision of the UNEP Administrative Officer and will be responsible for various tasks related to project design, development, implementation, evaluation, and closure. The role aims to provide efficient support, maintain accurate financial data, and ensure timely responses to executing agencies. In addition to these duties, UN Volunteers are expected to enhance their understanding of volunteerism, engage in reflection activities, contribute articles about their field experiences, assist with the UNV Buddy Programme, promote online volunteering, and support local volunteerism. The assignment duration is 12 months, with the possibility of extension.

Volunteer requirements:

  • The volunteer must have at least 5 years of experience in administration, finance, accounting services, or related areas.
  • Experience with finance or administration within the UN system is an asset, as well as experience working in the UN or other international development organization.
  • Fluent English language skills are required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including drafting, formulation, and reporting.
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in business administration, finance, or accounting fields is a requirement.
  • Additional technical qualifications such as ACCA, certified public accountant (CPA), or equivalent, at any level, are also required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a diverse range of partners.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel.
  • Proficiency in computer literacy, including MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet.
  • Self-motivated individual with the ability to work under tight deadlines.
  • Sound security awareness.
  • Affinity with or interest in volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and a strong interest in the UN System.
