Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) is seeking a qualified and motivated individual for the position of Economic Affairs Officer. This role involves conducting research, analyzing economic trends, and providing policy advice to support economic development and integration in the Arab region. The incumbent will work on key issues such as sustainable development, economic growth, trade, and investment.

Main Responsibilities of Economic Affairs Officer at ESCWA:

  • Conduct in-depth economic research and analysis on regional and global economic trends, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Prepare technical reports, policy briefs, and studies to support member states in achieving sustainable economic growth.
  • Develop and implement programs, initiatives, and policies aimed at enhancing economic cooperation and integration among ESCWA member states.
  • Monitor and evaluate the economic impact of policies and propose recommendations for improvement.
  • Contribute to the preparation of meetings, workshops, and conferences, including drafting background papers and delivering presentations.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including governments, international organizations, and private sector representatives, to promote economic development initiatives.
  • Provide capacity-building and technical assistance to member states to strengthen their economic institutions and policymaking capabilities.

Qualifications and skills of Economic Affairs Officer at ESCWA :

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in economics, international trade, development economics, or a related field.
  • A minimum of five years of professional experience in economic analysis, research, or policy formulation, preferably in an international or regional organization.
  • Strong knowledge of economic challenges and opportunities in the Arab region.
  • Proficiency in using quantitative and qualitative tools for economic analysis.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and writing skills.
  • Fluency in English is required; knowledge of Arabic and/or French is highly desirable.
