Immerse yourself in the world of conservation with the Powell Gardens Conservation Internship! This program provides students with a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in native plant conservation and ecological stewardship. You’ll work alongside experienced horticulturalists and conservationists, contributing to the care and management of Powell Gardens’ diverse ecosystems.
Qualifications
- Passion for plants, ecology, and conservation.
- Current enrollment in a college or university program related to environmental science, horticulture, or a similar field (preferred).
- Basic understanding of native plant identification and ecological principles.
- Strong interest in learning about prairie restoration and management.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the development and maintenance of native plant gardens, meadows, and trails at Powell Gardens.
- Participate in the ongoing care of Ona’s Prairie, a critically important offsite native prairie.
- Conduct activities such as plant inventory, seed collection, and invasive species control.
- Learn and implement best practices for prairie restoration and conservation.
- Assist with educational programs and outreach initiatives related to conservation.
- May provide support to Powell Gardens’ horticulture staff with other duties as assigned.
