Uniting African Institutions with Diaspora Scholars: The Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Program

Empowering Collaboration for African Higher Education

The Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Program (CADFP) fosters collaboration between African universities and African-born scholars residing in the US or Canada. Funded by Carnegie Corporation of New York (CCNY), this program strengthens research, teaching, and curriculum development across Africa.

Who can Participate?

  • African Universities: Accredited institutions in Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, and member institutions of the African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA) and the Consortium for Advanced Research Training in Africa (CARTA) can apply to host scholars.
  • African-born Scholars: If you are currently living in the US or Canada and hold an academic position, you can apply to the Scholar Roster to be matched with a suitable project.

How Does it Work?

  1. Project Requests: Universities submit project requests outlining their needs in research collaboration, graduate student mentoring, or curriculum co-development. They can specify a preferred scholar or leave it open for matching.
  2. Scholar Applications: Scholars can apply to the Scholar Roster highlighting their expertise and areas of interest.
  3. Matching and Selection: IIE matches scholars with suitable projects based on expertise and project needs.

The Next Steps:

  • The application period for Project Requests closed in March 2024. Applications for the next cycle will open in July 2024.
  • Learn more about the program details and eligibility criteria for both institutions and scholars.
