Summary:
The Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) is a programme that funds small-scale, high-impact projects in developing countries that align with Canada’s international assistance priorities. The CFLI supports local civil society organizations that work on issues such as gender equality, human rights, democracy, environment, and growth. The CFLI is managed by the Canadian Embassy or High Commission in each eligible country.
Sponsor:
The CFLI is sponsored by the Government of Canada, through Global Affairs Canada, the department that leads Canada’s international development and humanitarian assistance.
Eligibility:
The CFLI is open to local non-governmental, community and not-for-profit organizations, local academic institutions, international organizations, and government institutions in the eligible countries. The CFLI prioritizes local civil society organizations that have a proven track record and capacity to deliver results.
Benefits:
The CFLI offers grants of up to CAD $50,000 for each project, which include the following benefits:
- Funding to implement the project and achieve the desired outcomes
- Training and mentoring on Project Management, Monitoring and evaluation, and communication
- Networking and collaboration opportunities with other grantees, partners, and experts
- Visibility and recognition for the project and the team
