Co-Creation Projects for Advancing Humanitarian Action

Summary:

The ETH4D Humanitarian Action Challenges (HAC) Grants 2024 provide support for project-based research collaborations between researchers from ETH Zurich, EPFL, and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The objective is to harness science and technology to enhance the effectiveness of humanitarian action. The projects should focus on addressing well-defined research questions that aim to amplify the impact of humanitarian efforts. Additionally, the projects should involve the development, testing, evaluation, or implementation of innovative products, policies, or services that tackle specific humanitarian challenges. A key requirement is the co-creation of technologies by both scientists and humanitarian professionals.

Eligibility:

Each team applying for the ETH4D Humanitarian Action Challenges (HAC) Grants 2024 must include a main applicant from ETH Zurich holding a PhD, as well as a partner from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). It is encouraged, though not mandatory, to have additional partners from low- or lower-middle-income countries, EPFL, or other humanitarian organizations. Co-applicants from the rest of the ETH Domain are also welcome to participate. In cases where the main applicant is not an ETH professor, a letter of commitment from the ETH host professor or head of the unit, indicating their financial contribution to the project, must be included with the proposal.

Benefits:

The grant sum is between 50,000 and 300,000 CHF. The funding is for production and post-production costs. The funding is paid out in several instalments according to a payment plan. The funding is subject to the condition of a profit participation and a share of the copyright.
