Summary:
Iowa State University, also known as Iowa State or ISU, is a public research university located in Ames, Iowa. It was established in 1858 as the Iowa Agricultural College and Model Farm and became one of the initial land-grant institutions in the country. Iowa State offers a diverse range of academic programs across its eight colleges and is renowned for its research endeavors.
The university holds the classification of an “R1: Doctoral Universities – Very high research activity” institution and houses several research laboratories and institutes. In 2018, the Borel Global Fellows Program was launched at Iowa State to support graduate students from Sub-Saharan Africa who are pursuing studies in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
The program’s primary objectives are to address food and nutrition insecurity and enhance the well-being of subsistence farmers in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Requirements:
– Admission into a graduate program in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Iowa State University.
– Citizenship of a Sub-Saharan African country.
– Commitment to completing graduate studies as preparation for a career contributing to food security in Sub-Saharan Africa.
– The majority of the graduate research should be conducted in Sub-Saharan Africa.
– Intention to work and live in Sub-Saharan Africa after completing graduate studies.
Qualifications:
– Students who have been admitted to a graduate program in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Iowa State University.
– Citizens of Sub-Saharan African countries.
– Individuals with a strong commitment to addressing food security issues in Sub-Saharan Africa.
– Students with the intention to contribute to the well-being of subsistence farmers in the region.
– Candidates who plan to reside and work in Sub-Saharan Africa after completing their graduate studies.
Date and Location:
– Location: United States (Ames, Iowa)
– The Borel Global Fellows Program is ongoing and supports graduate students throughout their studies.
– Funding of up to $25,000 per year per student is available for graduate student stipends.
– Additional funding for travel to and from Africa for research purposes is also available.
