Honoring Fact-Checking Journalism in Africa

The African Fact-Checking Awards, now in their eleventh year, recognize outstanding fact-checking journalism by media professionals across Africa. Entries are open to journalists, journalism students, and professional fact-checkers. There are three award categories:

- Fact-Check of the Year by a Working Journalist
- Fact-Check of the Year by a Professional Fact-Checker
- a Student Journalist Prizes:
- Working Journalist and Professional Fact-Checker Winners: $3,000 prize each
- Working Journalist and Professional Fact-Checker Runners-Up: $1,500 prize each
- Student Journalist Winner: $2,000 prize
- Student Journalist Runner-Up: $1,000 prize Eligibility:
- Entries must be original work related to Africa, exposing misleading or incorrect claims.
- Fact-checks must have been published or broadcast between July 1, 2023, and July 14, 2024. Judging Criteria:
- Significance: Importance of the claim investigated for wider society.
- Testing: Rigorous examination of available evidence.
- Presentation: Clear and accessible reporting of evidence.
